Howard Griffith holds the record for the most rushing touchdowns in a game. Griffith played for the Fighting Illini from 1987 to 1990. He holds the record with eight touchdowns in a game vs. Southern Illinois on September 22, 1990. The Illini won the game by a score of 56-21.

Griffith had an 11 year NFL career. While he played for various teams, his most memorable team was the Denver Broncos, where he played from 1997 to 2001. He was the blocking back for Terrell Davis and won two Super Bowls with the Broncos (Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII).
