Orgeron played for Louisiana State University in 1979, but transferred after his first year to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He played at Northwestern State from 1980 to 1983.

He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State and has been in coaching ever since.

Orgeron was the head coach for Ole Miss, interim head coach for USC, and interim coach for LSU. His college coaching record is 22-29. Last year after Les Miles was fired during the season, Ed Orgeron was named interim head coach. On November 26, 2016, LSU officially hired Orgeron as the head coach for the LSU Tigers, removing the tag of interim. Let’s see how he does!
