On September 1, 2007 Appalachian State upset Michigan by a score of 34-32. Michigan had a chance to win it with six seconds left in the game. They attempted a field goal, but it was blocked by Corey Lynch thereby securing Applachian State’s upset of the fifth ranked Wolverines.

Michigan fell out of the AP altogether after this upset. They did end up with a 9-4 record and a victory in the Capital One bowl. However, this would be Lloyd Carr’s last season, undoubtedly hastened by Appalachian State’s upset.
