Ole Miss’s Eli Manning – QB – MVP of the 2002 Independence Bowl
The Independence Bowl has been played since 1976. Ole Miss has the most victories in this Bowl Game as they are 4-1 in it. They also have the most appreanaces in the Independence Bowl at five. This year’s Independence Bowl is on December 26, 2016 at 4:00 PM EST and will be on ESPN2; the NC State Wolfpack play the Vanderbilt Commodores.
In the 2002 Bowl, Ole Miss played the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Rebel’s Eli Manning threw for 313 yards and one touchdown while leading his team to a 27-23 victory. This earned Eli Manning MVP honors for this game.
Eli Manning played one more year in college and then entered the 2004 NFL Draft, where he ended up being the overall number one pick and ended up, through a trade, playing for the New York Giants. Manning is a two-time Super Bowl Champ, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, and four-time Pro-Bowler. It looks like he will end up in the NFL Hall of Fame once he retires.
