Quarterback Angelo Bertelli from the University Notre Dame was the number one pick in the 1944 draft. He was drafted by the Boston Yanks. In 1943* Bertelli won the Heisman and was a two time All-American.
Bertelli was on active military duty when drafted by the Boston Yanks. He served his country in WW II. When he returned from the war and military service in 1946 he played professional football for the Los Angeles Dons and the Chicago Rockets. He retired from football in prior to the 1949 season due to knee injuries.
