The Victors
The Michigan Wolverines have the most victories in NCAA College Football history.
The Michigan Wolverines have the most victories in college football history with a record of 909–317–36. Trailing them are Yale with 874 victories, and Texas and Notre Dame tied for third with 869 victories each. Their winning percentage, 73.5% ; it also ranks them as the top rated program, followed by Notre Dame with 73.3 %, Oklahoma with 71.9%, with their archrival and chief nemesis The Ohio State University in fourth place with a 71.7%.
One of the big reasons Michigan leads in overall wins is due to the longevity of the program, which started in 1879 and already had 98 wins by 1900. Most of the teams in the top five - Michigan Wolverines, the Yale Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers - all have programs that started early. Michigan (like Yale) is helped by a tradition that started earlier than most and has kept going strong..
