In 2013 Cardale Jones completed one pass. The 2014 season wasn’t looking much better until OSU’s starter J.T. Barrett got injured toward the end of the Michigan game. Cardale got thrown into the fire and was the starter for the remainder of the OSU season. Cardale performed magnificently, throwing for 860 yards, 7 TDs, a 60.9% completion rate, and 9.3 yards per throw. Along the way Cardale beat Wisconsin (59-0), Alabama (42-35), and Oregon (42-20) and won the National Championship for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Can this success continue into the 2015 season? Well, he can cruise through the regular season and do well. The big challenge comes on November 21st vs the Michigan State Spartans. If the Buckeyes beat the Spartans, then the next big challenge is the Big Ten Championship. Basically, it will come down to whether he can repeat last year’s drive to the National Championship. We think they will do well, but it is not easy to repeat. We think Jones gets them to the National Championship game where they lose; statistically he will also have an excellent year. However, if OSU does not repeat, then it is not a success.
Cardale has set a very high bar, which, unfortunately, we don’t think he will be able to meet. Too many factors can work against you in College Football to repeat.
