Will Myles Garrett improve the A&M defense? (Factoid 503)

Date: 5/31/15
Texas A&M went 8-5 last year. Their offense was adequate enough to keep them in games. However, the defense suffered: they gave up 59 points to Alabama; 48 to Mississippi State; 35 to Mississippi; all in a three game losing streak.

Defensive end Myles Garrett had a fantastic freshman season with 53 tackles, 29 solo tacklers, 14.0 tackles for a loss, and 11.5 sacks. He will undoubtedly be better than last year, but will it make a significant impact on the A&M defense? Clearly teams will have to account for him and double team, which will open lanes for others, so the A&M defense should be better. How much better? We think it will improve them to a 10 win to 11 win season. With passing so critical in this day and age of college football, defensive ends can be tremendous disruptions for offenses. Garrett most certainly will be that.
