Manziel’s team went 11-2 that year and won the Cotton Bowl by a score of 41-13 over Oklahoma. He had a major 29-24 victory over number one ranked Alabama. They were a few plays away from winning in the two games they did lose: 17-20 vs. Florida and 19-24 vs. LSU.

Manziel won the Heisman his freshman year not only due to his arm but also his running and scrambling ability. That season he rushed for 1410 yards for a 7.0 yards per carry average and 21 TDs. The 21 rushing TDs along with the 26 passing TDs are remarkable numbers and earned Manziel the right to call his freshman season the fourth best freshman year ever.
