Factoid 233 - The 1961 College Football season.
Date:
8/6/14
In 1961 there were 111 teams playing in Division 1. The Iowa Hawkeyes were the pre-season number one and favorite; however, Alabama and Ohio State would share National Championship honors at the end of the season.
Alabama was coached by legendary coach Bear Bryant and went 11-0 for the season. Ohio State was coached by legendary coach Woody Hayes and went 8-0-1 their only blemish being a tie with Texas Christian for the first game of the season. Ohio State did not go to the Rose Bowl due to the faculty council voting against OSU participating. (My, how times have changed.)
