E. B. Beaumont was Alabama’s first coach. He coached in 1892, which was Alabama’s first year. His team went 2-2 that year.
Coach Beaumont’s team won their first game 56-0 vs. Birmingham High School. They then lost 4-5 to the Birmingham Athletic Club, which they played again and won 14-0. Their last game of the season was a 22-32 loss to the Auburn Tigers.
Coach Beaumont was fired after the season. The Alabama yearbook had this to say about him:
"We were unfortunate in securing a coach. After keeping him for a short time, we found that his knowledge of the game was very limited. We therefore got rid of him.”
