Halfback Bill Dudley was the overall number one pick in the 1942 draft. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Bill played for the University of Virginia. In 1941* Dudley was an All-American and won the Maxwell award. He went on to have a nine-year NFL career and was a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
Dudley is in both the College Football Hall of Fame and the NFL Hall of Fame.
* Note: the NFL draft is in the spring after the college season; so, for instance, the 1990 draft corresponds to the 1989 season.
