The seventh greatest freshman season in College Football history. (Factoid 494)
Date:
5/22/15
In 1951 George Shaw hauled in 13 INTs for 136 return yards in just 10 games. He played cornerback for the Oregon Ducks. This mark is one shy of the FBS all-time-single-season INT record. While George’s numbers were impressive, his team stunk: 2-8 and finished eighth overall. (Sorry we coudln't find a picture.)
He is better known for being picked first in the NFL draft by the Baltimore Colts in the 1952 draft. He was drafted as a quarterback. He had some initial success but injuries limited his career, although he did play eight years in the NFL.
