Sixteen team College Football Playoff who would be in?

College Football Faniacs is the main proponent of a 16 team College Football Playoff.

Our main reasoning:
  • Four teams leaves out one power conference
  • Team selection is still selective and not settled on the field
  • Mathematically 16 teams means the best team wins 99.7% of the time
  • A four-team playoff skews teams to schedule Cup Cake games
  • 16 is so much more fun!
College Football Faniacs also proposes that the 16 teams in the playoffs come from the 11 FBS conference champions and five at-large teams. The five at-large teams and seeding would be set by the playoff committee.

Let’s concentrate on “16 is so much more fun.” If there were a 16 team playoff, here are the teams that would be in:

Here would be the first round of games and we compare the Faniacs 16 vs. The College Football Playoff Committee’s:

This week we compared the matchups in the “16 Team Playoff” with the College Football Playoff Committee rankings. One thing that jumps out the non-power conferences wouldn’t get to participate if left to just the College Football Playoff Committee.

The other thing that jumps out is the Number One Seed gets no reward for being the number one seed in the Committee rankings; playing the Oregon Ducks is never easy. We would say that 11 spots for each Conference winner is very appropriate and rewards the Number One Seed by having to play a weaker team in the first round.

As we have always advocated we are for the winner being determined on the field and not in committee. Our proposed 11 conference champion automatic bids does achieve that. It would also force Notre Dame to finally join a conference (LOL).

Do you agree with our predictions and present breakout? What would you change?
