In 2001 there were 117 teams in Division 1, 25 Bowl Games, Eric Crouch (QB) of Nebraska won the Heisman, and Miami won the National Championship outright.
The Hurricanes went 12-0 in 2001 and defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the BSC National Championship Game by a score of 37-14. Larry Coker was the head coach. The Offensive coordinator was Rob Chudzinski and they ran a pro style offensive scheme.
Their quarterback was Ken Dorsey who led a very dominant Hurricanes team, their only real challenge being #14th ranked VA Tech, which was the last game of the regular season. The VA Tech Hokies gave it all they had but ended up losing 26-24; this secured Miami’s place in the BSC National Championship game.
