This year every player on the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks rooster went to college. There are, however, some who did not go to a major university. The NFL finds talent at every level. Here are three players on the Super Bowl roster from smaller schools:
- Zach Moore - DE - Patriots - Concordia University, Saint Paul, Minnesota - NCAA Division II
- Jon Ryan - Punter - Seahawks - University of Regina - Saskatchewan, Canada
- Ricardo Lockette - WR - Seahawks - Fort Valley State University - Fort Valley, GA, NCAA Division II
Jon Ryan went to the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada. He played in the CFL for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 2004 to 2005. In 2006 he went to the NFL playing for the Green Bay Packers and played there from 2006 to 2007. The Packers released him on September 1, 2008. The Seattle Seahawks picked him up shortly after.
Jon Ryan signed a six year / $9,100,000 contract with the Seattle Seahawks, including a $420,000 signing bonus, $525,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $1,516,667. Ricardo Lockette signed a two year / $1,050,000 contract with the Seattle Seahawks, including an annual average salary of $525,000.
Zach Moore signed a four year / $2,322,200 contract with the New England Patriots, including a $102,200 signing bonus, $102,200 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $580,550.
Just goes to show that sometimes if you just keep trying, things work out.
