Date:
8/7/15

Alvin Kletsch was Wisconsin’s first coach. He coached the first Wisconsin football team in its inaugural season of 1889. Kletsch’s team went 0-2, losing 0-27 to Calumet Club in Milwaukee and 0-4 to Beloit.
Coach Kletsch only coached the first year. He was replaced by Ted Mestre who was replaced by Herb Alward. In the early years of Wisconsin football a new coach was hired almost every year. Coach Philip King was the first who had a longer tenure; he coached eight years from 1896 to 1902 and in 1905.
