Factoid #1 - 144 seasons, 353 champions!

College football has been played for 144 seasons. In that time period there have been 353 champions.

Three hundred and fifty three champions means that every year 2.45 teams win the national college football championship. In 2008 fans spent 5.63 billion ESPN dollars watching the major Division 1 college teams; this number does not include the extras that fans bring to their college towns via hotel stays, restaurants, tailgating, beer, and the "so on".

While the BCS championship has changed that a bit, it is still the only major sport in the United States where the championship is decided by voters and not on the field: a very curious way to treat the fans of America’s second largest sport. You can change that and get it decided on the FIELD!
