ESPN released its list of the top 100 players in college football this season (follow this link). As always some on their list will meet expectations, some will exceed them, and some will fail. Their top five players are:

  • #1 - Jameis Winston - Florida State Seminoles - Quarterback - Redshirt sophomore
  • #2 - Marcus Mariota - Oregon Ducks - Quarterback - Redshirt junior
  • #3 - Todd Gurley - Georgia Bulldogs - Running back - Junior
  • #4 - Shilique Calhoun - Michigan State Spartans - Defensive end - Redshirt junior
  • T#5 -Melvin Gordon - Wisconsin Badgers - Running back - Redshirt junior
  • T#6 - Braxton Miller - Ohio State Buckeyes – Quarterback - Senior

We think Winston’s year will be disappointing. It is very hard to top what he did last year. Gurley and Gordon should have very good years. We, however, are going with Marcus Mariota, Melvin Gordon, and Braxton Miller.

Mariota, a redshirted junior in the Duck’s offense, should have a spectacular year. Gordon will carry on the Wisconsin tradition of great running backs. Braxton, two years under Meyer, should be ready to go. All three will be helped by leagues that are not very strong at this time.
