Oklahoma holds the record for the longest winning streak in college football. They hold the record with 47 consecutive wins from 1953 to 1957. The streak was broken on November 16, 1957 vs. Notre Dame at home in Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Oklahoma lost that day by a score of 0-7.

During this streak Oklahoma claims National Championships for the years 1955 and 1956. Some polls also recognized 1953 and 1957 as National Championship years. Interestingly Oklahoma finished 3rd in 1954, although they were unbeaten (10-0); Ohio State finished 1st (10-0); and UCLA finished 2nd (9-0). This year mostly certainly screamed for a college playoff.
