Blog - #43 - Domestic Violence and the NCAA

Everyone is familiar with recent events in the NFL, Baltimore Ravens, Ray Rice, and his beating of his wife, the lack of serious consequence initially, and now an indefinite suspension for Rice. So it is important to note that this also happens at the collegiate level. Quite a few schools have a policy where a player is immediately suspended for a domestic violence charge and, if convicted, they are thrown off the team.
Do you think this is how this really works, or do players get away with quite a bit? We are guessing there are places where it is quite strict and places where players “get away with it.” The NCAA as a whole has no real rule on domestic violence, although the coach can’t buy a player peanut butter jelly sandwich without getting fined.
We think it is time that the NCAA institutes not a policy, but a rule on domestic violence with enough teeth that schools can’t act on their own guidelines.
What do you think? Would this be a good idea? Please comment via the button down below.
