Here is last week’s list of lopsided scores:

Boise State 52 vs. Idaho State 0
Akron 52 vs. Savannah State 9
North Carolina 48 vs. Illinois 14
(This should be a competitive game, but the Fighting Illini have no fight. This year or as long as anyone can remember.)
Marshall 45 vs. Norfolk State 7
#24 Wisconsin 28 vs. Troy 3
Mississippi State 62 vs. Northwestern State 13
Vanderbilt 47 vs. Austin Peay 7
Georgia Southern 48 vs. The Citadel 13
#20 Arizona 77 vs. Northern Arizona 13
Tulane 38 vs. Maine 7

The total scores for these games were 497 to 86. Most of these contests involve an FBS school playing a lower division school. These games are scheduled primarily for monetary reasons for the schools involved.

Is the fan getting a quality product? No. Is this competitive football? No. Do we enjoy watching these types of games? No.

In the 16 Team College Football Playoff we are proposing every conference would get one spot for its Conference Championship, leaving five spots for Independents and highly ranked teams. If you look at these scores half of the lopsided games in week three more were not with the five power conference teams. Instead they were MAC, Mountain West, and the American Athletic Conference teams.

In our 16 Team Playoff scenario the MAC, Mountain West, and the American Athletic Conferences would all have a playoff spot for their conference champion so winning the conference would become the main focus. How do you win a conference? By scheduling challenging non-conference games to prepare for conference play!
