Factoid 238 - The 2011 College Football season.

Date: 8/11/14

In 2001 there were 120 teams in Division 1, 35 bowl games, Robert Griffin III (QB) from Baylor won the Heisman, and three teams tied for the national championship: Alabama (12-1); LSU (13-1); and Oklahoma State (12-1). Despite the fact that the BSC National Championship Game was supposed to end these types of controversies, most people would say Alabama won the National Championship, and we would agree. However, some selectors did not think so.

Alabama went 12-1 under head coach Nick Saban. They defeated the LSU Tigers by a score of 21-0 in the New Orleans Superdome (so much for home team advantage). Trent Richardson was the offensive star of the team, and he won the Doak Walker Award (this award is given to the nation’s top running back.)

AJ McCarron was the starting quarterback and the BSC National Championship Game MVP. This would be his first of two National Championships.
