On January 3, 2001 the Oklahoma Sooners beat the Florida State Seminoles in the BCS title game in the confines of the Orange Bowl. The New York Times poll, however, voted the Miami Hurricanes as the champion that year.

Despite the third year of the BCS title game, who knows who the champion would have been in a playoff format. The Miami Hurricanes, Washington Huskies, and Oregon State Beavers all had a legitimate claim to play for the title. While in 2014 there will be a four team playoff system, how much more of this should we fans take?
