Fielding H. Yost (1928)
Fielding H. Yost is tied for third in the number of NCAA football national championships won.
Fielding H. Yost won a total of eight NCAAF football national championships via one poll or another, all at the University of Michigan. He was born April 3, 1871 and played college football at West Virginia University; in 1896 he switched teams mid-season and played for Lafayette. He was a six foot, two hundred pound tackle, which sounds quite small nowadays. He coached for six different universities: Ohio Wesleyan (1897), Nebraska (1898), Kansas (1899), Stanford (1900), San Jose State (1900), and Michigan (1901-1923, 1925-1926).
His titles were also often shared with other teams; for instance, in 1926, the Nebraska Cornhuskers shared the title with: Lafayette, Alabama, Navy, and Stanford.
