Coach Eli Abbott was the first Alabama coach to have a winning record. In 1894 his team went 3-1. They lost their first game 0-6 to Ole Miss but then went on to win the rest of their games by scores of: 18-6 (Tulane); 24-4 (Sewanee); and 18-0 (Auburn).
Alabama’s next winning season would be in 1896. Coach Otto Wagonhurst team would go 2-1 that year. In Alabama’s first ten years they would only have three winning seasons. How times have changed in the last ten years Alabama has had only one losing season.
