Ron Rivera played linebacker for the California Golden Bears from 1980 to 1983. In 1983 he was a Consensus All-American. He had three interceptions over his college career and one TD. There is no data available for his number of tackles and sacks.
The Chicago Bears chose him in the 2nd round of the 1984 NFL Draft as the 44th pick. He won Super Bowl XX with the Bears. After he retired from playing in the NFL he did some TV work and then in 1997 started coaching in the NFL as an assistant.
He has been the head coach of the Carolina Panthers since 2011. He never coached in college, but always the NFL.
