The Michigan Wolverines’ first victory as a football team was on May 30. 1879. They beat Racine by a score of 1-0. (Rules were much different back then.) The game was played in the White Stocking grounds in Chicago, Illinois before 500 spectators. It was the first game Michigan ever played.
Wow! How times have changed. The largest crowd ever to watch a football game was in the Big House with 115,109 spectators. Notre Dame was the visiting team. Michigan won 41-30.
