In 1937 Villanova went 8-0-1. They gave up their lone touchdown vs. Marquette on November 6, 1937. This game ended up in a tie and the only blemish on Villanova’s season. At the time Villanova was an independent and played in Division 1; they are not in the FBS division presently. They finished the season ranked 6th in the final AP Poll.

In 1938 the Duke Blue Devils went 9-1. They gave up their lone touchdown in the Rose Bowl vs. USC; they also lost this game 3-7. They finished ranked 3rd in the Final AP Poll. Wade Wallace was their coach; he coached Alabama before then.
