Blog - #45 – Jameis Winston selling autographs! Oh the Horror! Time to change NCAA; it is not 1930 anymore!

10/17/14-Author:Tali

As most college football fans have probably heard, Jameis Winston, QB Florida State, is thought to have sold some autographs and thereby violated NCAA rules and may be ineligible to play. So the scandals continue. Almost all national championship teams have gone through this:

  • The big newspapers send down some reporters
  • They dig and they dig
  • Eventually they find dirt
  • The following year a different team, play rewind, same thing again

What we Faniacs want to know is: when will this stop? These athletes aren’t breaking criminal laws; they are breaking NCAA rules set for athletes. Is this fun? What does the NCAA gain from this? We no longer understand.

College Football Faniacs is proposing the following:
  • Create a NCAA athletes union
  • This union should negotiate compensation, health care, apparel rights, etc.

Unions to some are a dirty word, but actually they function very effectively in the American sports arenas. The NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB all have unions. They are also the most popular professional sports leagues in the nation.

Isn’t it time college sports took this leap? We think so. Please comment via the button below.
