Factoid 21 - Oklahoma is fifth in NCAAF National Championships with 17
Date:
12/11/13
The Oklahoma Sooners hold the record of the fifth most NCAA football championships with 17 of them.
The Sooners won their first national championship with Bennie Owen as their coach; it would be his only national championship. Other coaches who have won the national championship for Oklahoma are Bud Wilkinson (6), Chuck Fairbanks (1), Barry Switzer (7), and Bob Stoops (2).
I don’t know that many would recognize Bob Stoops’ second title as it was picked by the Berrymen mathematical selector, which most not have been perfect, because Oklahoma lost to LSU by a score of 14 to 21 in the BCS National Championship game.
