Factoid 407 - Who has the 8th worst all time Wonderlic score for an NFL Prospect?

Date: 2/24/15
Sebastian Janikowski, kicker for Florida State, scored a 9 on the Wonderlic, which earned him the honor of the 8th worst score on this test in NFL history. Janikowski played for Florida State from 1997 to 1999. He scored a total of 324 points for Florida State in his career. In 1998 and 1999 he was a Consensus All-American and a Lou Groza Award winner.

“The Wonderlic is a 50-question test administered to all combine participants that measures cognitive ability. The time limit is 12 minutes. A score of 20 is indicative of ‘average’ intelligence and roughly equivalent to an IQ of 100. Apr 12, 2014.” - ESPN

In the 2000 NFL draft Janikowski was picked 17th overall by the Oakland Raiders; he was the 4th kicker chosen in the first round in the history of the NFL Draft. He has played for Oakland since 2000 and has had a very successful career as their primary kicker. He made the Pro Bowl in 2011 and is the Raiders’ all-time leading scorer. Apparently the low Wonderlic had no effect in the NFL Draft or his career in the NFL. Janikowski was born in Walbrzych, Poland, so language may have been an issue on the Wonderlic.

Sebastian Janikowski has earned around $45,614,500 over his career, and like most kickers he can continue playing for quite a long time, so he will make even more over the next few years. Not too bad for a Wonderlic flunky. In this case the Wonderlic predicted nothing.
