Factoid 405 - Who has the 9th worst all time Wonderlic score for an NFL Prospect?
Date:
2/22/15
Jeff George, QB for Illinois, scored a 10 on the Wolderlic, which earned him the honor of the 9th worst score on this test in NFL history. George played for the Purdue Boilermakers in 1986; after that season, he transferred to the Fighting Illini. He played for the Illini from 1988 to 1989. He had a very prolific career at Illinois, winning the Sammy Baugh Trophy in 1989.

“The Wonderlic is a 50-question test administered to all combine participants that measures cognitive ability. The time limit is 12 minutes. A score of 20 is indicative of ‘average’ intelligence and roughly equivalent to an IQ of 100. Apr 12, 2014.” - ESPN
In the 1990 NFL draft the Indianapolis Colts chose George as the first pick of the draft. Apparently the Colts could care less about the Wonderlic. We find it odd that in the most important position on the football field the Colts didn’t think intelligence was important. George played in the NFL from 1990 to 2006. He played on nine different teams. He had average stats. You could call him a first pick bust. So in this case the Wonderlic predicted, correctly, that this prospect probably didn’t have the intelligence to be a 1st pick QB.
