Factoid #3 - Princeton leads the list with 28 championships.

Date: 1/1/35
Princeton

Princeton has won 28 college football championships according to the College Data Warehouse. They were a powerhouse from 1869 to 1935.

Unfortunately, 1936 saw the creation of the Associated Press Poll in 1936, after which Princeton was never to be awarded a championship again. The size and the strength of public universities, as well as some private ones, lead to the demise of Princeton and the Ivy League in the sport of college football. Since 1978, Princeton has played in Division II A for smaller schools, which is now called the Football Championship Subdivision. It should, however, be noted that at Princeton academics come first and sports are second; this hurts them from an athletic standpoint but helps them academically as one of the strongest academic institutions in the United States and the world.

Interestingly, this league has a 24 team playoff, which then begs the question:

“If college athletes from the FSC schools handle a football playoff, then why can’t the schools in Division I FBS? We suspect it is not about integrity but about money.”

Let’s change this! We, the FANS, own the game!
