Factoid 408 - Who has the 8th best all time Wonderlic score for an NFL Prospect?

Date: 2/25/15
Blaine Gabbert, QB for Missouri, scored a 42 on the Wonderlic, which earned him the honor of the 8th best score on this test in NFL history. Blaine Gabbert played QB for the Missouri Tigers from 2008 to 2010. He started in 2009 and 2010; in both these seasons he threw for over 3,000 yards. One of the highlights of the 2010 season was upsetting #1 Oklahoma 30-42, where Blaine passed for 308 yards.

“The Wonderlic is a 50-question test administered to all combine participants that measures cognitive ability. The time limit is 12 minutes. A score of 20 is indicative of ‘average’ intelligence and roughly equivalent to an IQ of 100. Apr 12, 2014.” - ESPN

Gabbert entered the 2011 NFL draft and was the 10th overall pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars. His contract at the time was worth $12 million dollars over four years. He played for the Jaguars for three seasons but was traded to the 49ers in 2014, where he is a backup. It appears he will be primarily a backup in the NFL. Did the high Wonderlic score predict success in the NFL? Only if being a career backup is considered success.
