Cupcake College Football Games and a Sixteen Team Playoff!

9/18/15-Author:Tali

There were some very (NOT) enticing scores on week one:

For instance:

Georgia Tech 69 vs. Alcorn State 6
Georgia 51 vs. Louisiana Monroe 14
Ole Miss 76 vs. Tennessee-Martin 3

Week two had its share as well.

For instance:
TCU 70 vs. Stephen F Austin 3
Baylor 66 vs. Lamar 31
Ohio State 38 vs. Hawaii 0

There were plenty more cupcake games and will be plenty more. Why so many? What happened to the strength of scheduling?

The BCS system and now the playoff system reward weak schedules, because one loss makes it very hard to make it to the playoffs and two losses make it almost impossible to make the playoffs. Schools know this, so they schedule cupcake games.

A sixteen team playoff with automatic bids for conferences would eliminate most of this. Teams would be interested in preparing for conference play. Playing good teams that don’t count in conference standings would really help the teams going into their conference schedules.

Cupcake games would diminish by 500%!
