Wallace Wade at Alabama

Wallace Wade was born on June 15, 1892 in Trenton, Tennessee. He played guard at Brown University from 1914 to 1916. After college he spent time in the Army and rose to the rank of cavalry captain. After the Army he was hired as coach for Fitzgerald and Clarke Military School in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

From 1921 to 1922 he an assistant football coach at Vanderbilt. Alabama hired Wade in 1923, and he would coach Alabama for eight seasons. Some of his stats as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide:
  • An overall record of 61–13–3
  • Four Southern Conference titles
  • National Championships in 1925, 1926, and 1930
  • Two Rose Bowl victories
  • One Rose Bowl tie
After the 1930 season Wade would accept Dukes’ offer and go coach for them, which he did for 20 years. There he was successful but unable to win another National Championship.
