Factoid 366 - Who holds the record for the most rushing yards in the College Football Playoff final?

Date: 1/14/15

This is kind of a trick question. The first ever College Football Play final was played Monday night at 8:30 PM January 12, 2015. Ezekiel Elliott, running back for The Ohio State University, had the most rushing yards in this game.

Elliott is sophomore and rushed for 246 yards on 36 carries for an average of 6.8 yards per carry on Monday night. He also scored four TDs, his longest run was 33 yards, and he won the offensive MVP for the game.

This capped an excellent sophomore year in which he rushed for 1878 yards on 273 carries in 15 games for an average 6.9 yards per carry. He also scored 18 TDs for the season. It should be noted he saved his best performances for the end of the season, when he rushed for over 200 hundred yards in the following games: Big Ten Championship game; College Football Playoff semi-final game; and College Football Playoff final. Nothing wrong with saving your best work for the end of the season.
