Factoid 392 - College Football’s 2003 Season: a BCS National Championship Game and still two National Champions.

Date: 2/9/15

In the 2003 season LSU went 13-1 and was coached by Nick Saban. LSU played Oklahoma in the BSC National Championship game. Various polls, including the USAT/ESPN, awarded LSU the National Championship.

The AP Poll, however, chose Pete Carroll’s 12-1 team as the National Champion. USC’s only loss that year was 31-34 loss vs. Cal early in the season. LSU’s loss was a 7-19 loss to Florida. The SEC had a championship game, but the Pac-10 did not.

So who is the better team? Who knows? If you don’t settle it on the field a debate will always exist. Both schools claim a National Championship for this season.

Factoid 393 – Pete Carroll’s 2007, 11-2, USC team and BCS National Championship Game winner, LSU, both had two losses. Why shouldn’t USC claim this as a National Championship?
