How significant are recruiting rankings in success?

Faniacs analyzed the last ten National Championships and ranked them based on recruiting results (see below).

Recruiting top classes seems to be Saban’s formula for success and seems so for Urban Meyer as well. For the other five National Championships it is not so clear cut. Is it a case because of because Nick Saban is a great coach he recruits great players or is he is a great college coach because he is a great recruiter? Who knows?
