Halfback Kyle Rote from Southern Methodist University was the number one pick in the 1951 draft. He was drafted by the New York Giants.

In 1950* Kyle was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. He ran, passed, and kicked. Once he had a punt that went 84 yards that is the longest punt in NCAA history.
