Quarterback Bill Wade from the University of Vanderbilt was the number pick in the 1952 draft. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams.

In 1951* he was the SEC’s most valuable player and second team All-American.

He played in the NFL for thirteen years, seven with the Rams and then six with the Bears, and won the NFL championship in 1963 for the Chicago Bears. His best year was in 1958 when he threw for 2,875, which is very impressive for an era when they ran before they passed.

* Note: the NFL draft is in the spring after the college season; so, for instance, the 1990 draft corresponds to the 1989 season.
