Football seasons sometimes take weird twists and turns, on the other hand if things go a certain way they line up quite well. Here is what we are real curious about for 2016:

5. Can J. T. Barrett lead a young and inexperienced team in 2016?
Ohio state is returning only six starters from last year’s team that sent a record number of players to the NFL. Under Urban Meyer teams reload they don’t rebuild. The Buckeyes strength is J. T. Barrett. J. T. Barrett is 23-2 as a Buckeye. He has thrown for 3,826 yards, 45 TDs, and 14 interceptions. He is a duel threat quarterback with 1,620 yards rushing and 22 TDs over his career.

But can he lead the young players enough to get them through the first six or so games? If so the Buckeyes could be going to the Playoffs.

4. Can Kirby Smart take the Georgia Bulldogs to the next level?
Kirby Smart has been an assistant coach since 1999. He is unproven as a head coach. Georgia has for years been ranked high early in the season only to slip as the season went on. Kirby’s predecessor, Mark Richt, was unable to take the Bulldogs to the next level.

The Georgia program is not a rebuild, the program is solid. Can Kirby Smart take it to the next level? Can he do it this year?

3. Can Les Miles beat Nick Saban?
Saban has beat the Tigers five years in a row. Alabama is only returning 11 starters and must replace a starting quarterback and Heisman Trophy Winner Derrick Henry. LSU on the other hand is returning 19 starters which include star running back Leonard Fournette and starting quarterback Brandon Harris-Jr.

If ever there was a year to defeat Nick Saban this would be the year, but can Les Miles beat Nick Saban?

2. Can Deshaun Watson continue to be spectacular?
Last year Deshaun Watson passed for 4,109 yards, 35 TDs, and only 13 interceptions, and he also ran for 1,105 yards and 12 TDs. Clemson is returning eight starters on offense. He is a Heisman Trophy candidate and returning consensus All-American.

It appears the stars are lined up for Deshaun Watson to have another spectacular season, but can he deliver one and will he?

1. Is this the year Jim Harbaugh turns Michigan around?
Jim Harbaugh had an impressive 10-3 season last year, especially considering the string of dismal seasons under Brady Hoke 2012 (8-5), 2013 (7-6), and 2014 (5-7). This year Michigan is ranked seventh in the preseason AP poll. Harbaugh is having success recruiting as well.

However, 10-3 is not a return of Michigan as a power house. Can Michigan beat Michigan State in East Lansing and Ohio State in Columbus? Can they then win the Big Ten Conference Championship game? Can they then win the first playoff game? Can they then win the National Championship? Harbaugh would have to win most of these for Michigan to be considered back as a national power. It is a daunting task. We will be watching.
