The Mobile Alabama Bowl has been played since 1999. Arkansas State (2–2), Marshall (2–0), Miami/Ohio (2–0), Southern Mississippi (2–0), Toledo (2–0), and Tulsa (2–0) have all won two games in this bowl, so they all are tied for the most victories. The Ohio Bobcats take on the Troy Trojans this year on December 23, 2016 at 7:00 PM and can be seen on ESPN. Since neither Bobcats (0-1) or the Trojans (0-1) have won a Mobile Alabama Bowl, the record for most victories will stand at least one more year. The bowl is now called the Dollar General Bowl.
In the 20003 Bowl Ben Roethlisberger threw for 376 yards and four first half TDs to lead his Miami RedHawks to a 49-28 victory over the Louisville Cardinals. This earned him MVP honors for this bowl game.
After this game, Ben opted to enter the NFL draft and forgo his senior season. He was drafted as the 11th pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers where he has won two Super Bowls and one day will more than likely be in the NFL Hall of Fame.
