Quarterback Sam Bradford is the highest paid draft rookie ever. Bradford played for the Oklahoma Sooners and won the Heisman in 2008. The Saint Louis Rams drafted him in the 2010 NFL Draft and signed him to a contract worth $76 million.

Conversely, John Elway’s rookie contract was a six year 12.7-million-dollar contract with the Denver Broncos. Elway was in the 1983 NFL Draft and was the first pick. He ended up in Denver through a trade with the then Baltimore Colts.

Sam Bradford’s salary many considered too much and he really hasn’t lived up to that kind of money. Because of Sam’s contract rookie salary caps were put in place as part of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement. So Sam’s contract will likely remain one of the biggest for a rookie for a long time in the future.
