Jim Harbaugh: coach for the Michigan Wolverines

On Thursday, September 3rd the Michigan Wolverines play the Utah Utes, which features the debut of Michigan’s new coach Jim Harbaugh.
Utah is coming off of a 9-4 season and was ranked 21st in last season’s final poll. Michigan is coming off of a 5-7 season but has been invigorated by new coach Jim Harbaugh. Coach Kyle Whittingham has been getting his team to play more and more competitively each year. So this is not give-me game for Michigan.
The rabid Michigan fan would like to see the Wolverines blow out the Utes, and anything less would be a failure. However, we don’t see this as a give-me game. In fact, we think this game will be pretty close. What will define success for Harbaugh’s first game, a win or a blow out?
We think that given where Michigan has been in recent years and the upward trajectory that the Utes have been on in recent years, a mere win by Michigan will enough for Harbaugh’s debut. Utah is pretty good, and Michigan has not been, so a win is all Harbaugh needs for his debut. Of course, not all Michigan fans will see it this way. There will always be the fan that needs the blow out.
