In 1913 Mike Donahue coached Auburn to an undefeated 8-0 record. They gave up only 13 points that season and scored 223. They were awarded a retroactive championship by the Billingsley Report. Auburn does not claim this national title.

Percy Haughton’s Harvard team went 9-0 that season and was retroactively awarded the National Championship by various polls. Amos Alonzo Stagg’s Chicago team went 7-0 that season and was awarded the National Championship by Parke H. Davis.

So in 1913 there were three undefeated teams who were awarded National Championships. Which team was better? Who knows? They didn’t settle on the field. That doesn’t mean Auburn shouldn’t claim this championship. They should.
