Last season two players tied for the most interceptions in the NCAA: Tarvarus McFadden (DB for the Florida State Seminoles) and Rasul Douglas (CB for the West Virginia Mountaineers). Each player had eight interceptions last season to lead the NCAA in this category.

The following players were all tied for second place with seven interceptions: Damontae Kazee (CB the San Diego State Aztecs); Tedric Thompson (DB for the Colorado Buffaloes); Weston Steelhammer (DB for the Air Force Falcons); and Malik Hooker (Safety for The Ohio State Buckeyes).

Tarvarus McFadden is returning next year for Florida State. Rasul Douglas is a senior and is entering the 2017 NFL Draft. Rasul is ranked 15th among players at his position entering the draft and is projected to be picked in the third round. Kazee is ranked 18th among players at his position entering the draft and is projected to be picked in the fourth round. Thompson is ranked 9th among players at his position (strong safety) entering the draft and is projected to be picked in the sixth round. Steelhammer is ranked 14th among players at his position (strong safety) entering the draft and is projected to be picked in the seventh round or unpicked and therefore a free agent. Hooker is ranked 1st among players at his position (free safety) entering the draft and is projected to be picked in the first round.
