Coach John Gagliardi was the coach for Carroll (MT) from 1949 to 1952. He then went on to coach Saint John's Minnesota until 2012. (He was also their hockey coach from 1954 to 1959.) His career record is 489–138–11 in college football and 42–25–1 in college ice hockey. He won two Division III titles in 1976 and 2003.

Coach Gagliardi was a true coach and teacher. His players were never going to make it to the NFL but played for the love of the game (even though two of his players did play in the NFL). His 63 years of coaching is a tribute to his dedication to education, and his longevity is also a symbol of his success.
