Quarterback Nathan Peterman led the Pitt Panthers in an historic upset of Clemson Saturday, November 12, 2016, beating the Clemson Tigers by a score of 43-42. Peterman threw for 308 yards, five TDs, and no interceptions. This season Peterman has thrown for 2,114 yards.

Dan Marino’s, College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Quarterback, best season with the Panthers he threw for 2,876 yards in 12 games; this was in 1981. Peterman needs to throw for 763 yards to surpass Marino’s yardage. Can Peterman surpass this? We think so. He may not be able to do it in two games, but more than likely he has three games to do this in, which would be 254 yards passing per game. This is attainable, but it is not a fair comparison as Peterman will have one more game to do this.

Marino’s record is not all that impressive as it is the seventh best passing season in Panther history; at the time, it was an impressive record, but the game and rules have changed to benefit passers. The Pitt record belongs to Rod Rutherford who threw for 3,679 yards in 2003, which Peterman will not be able to reach.
